Mercedes GLS to get another facelift

The current generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLS is set to get another refresh, spy shots have confirmed. The third-gen model made its international debut in November 2019, and received its first facelift in 2023, and both have been brought to the Indian market.

  2. Interior, features to be similar to the latest Mercedes models
  3. Electrified petrol and diesel engines expected to continue

Mercedes GLS facelift exterior highlights

The GLS facelift spied on test only has camouflage on the nose and rear section, indicating that majority of the changes will be seen on those areas. The spy shots hint at slimmer headlights, a slightly reshaped grille, and mildly restyled front and rear bumpers, along with different LED signatures in the tail-lamps.

While the spy shots do not show the seven-seat SUV’s interior, we expect it’ll have the latest (and larger) infotainment touchscreen and software seen on newer Mercedes models, along with minor design and upholstery changes. The array of safety, comfort and convenience features – from the ADAS suite and adjustable air suspension to the ‘Rear Seat Comfort’ package – seen on the current GLS facelift are expected to continue.

Mechanically, the new GLS facelift is likely to be unchanged. The current model on sale in India comes in GLS 450 (381hp, 3.0-litre, straight-six turbo-petrol) and GLS 450d (367hp, 3.0-litre, straight-six, diesel) forms, both of which get a mild-hybrid system that can add up to 20hp. A 9-speed automatic and Merc's 4Matic AWD system are expected to be standard fitment.

Mercedes GLS facelift India launch

This latest GLS facelift is likely to come to India in the future. However, considering Mercedes-Benz India launched the current GLS facelift at the start of the year, and that the spied model is only expected to be revealed in full early next year, the updated SUV is not expected any time soon.

Meanwhile, the German luxury brand will announce prices for the AMG GLC 43 4Matic and the CLE Cabriolet on August 8, and has plans to introduce four more models before the end of 2024. These include the Maybach EQS, all-new E-Class and the G 580 with EQ Tech.
