JLR and Stellantis sign MoU for car development in the US

JLR and Stellantis sign a MoU

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Stellantis have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), seeking collaborative opportunities for car development in the US. The non-binding MoU signed by the brands aims to extract value by creating synergies in product and technology development, primarily focused on the US market. This is also the first time JLR has signed an MoU with any American automaker.

  1. This agreement is specifically for the US market
  2. JLR and Stellantis have both signed agreements with Tata

The JLR and Stellantis MoU

The MoU signed by JLR and Stellantis has to wait regulatory approvals before it can become legally binding. However, the “collaboration will play an important role in unlocking new opportunities. Working with Stellantis allows us to explore complementary capabilities in product and technology development that support our longterm growth plans for the US market,” PB Balaji, Chief Executive Officer of JLR, said.

The companies plan to explore ideas to develop products and technologies that can benefit each other while also delivering “experiences our customers love,” Antonio Filosa, Chief Executive Officer of Stellantis, stated. In India, Stellantis signed a MoU with Tata Motors in February 2026 for exploring local and global collaborations across manufacturing, engineering, and the supply chain. This also marked a 20-year manufacturing alliance between Tata Motors and Stellantis.

The home-grown automaker had previously signed an agreement with JLR to manufacture JLR and Tata EVs on a common platform, with manufacturing taking place at Tata’s Ranipet plant in Tamil Nadu. While the MoU has been signed, developments coming from discussions between JLR and Stellantis would still need legally binding contracts in order to be executed.
