All you need to know about the new Lexus ES ahead of launch

The new Lexus ES is slated to go on sale in India in the coming weeks. This eight-gen model was revealed globally in April 2025, and will rival the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series LWB, and Audi A6 in the Indian market. Below, we’ve laid out everything you need to know about the new ES.

What is the new Lexus ES India launch date and price estimate?

Launching on March 20

Lexus will launch the new ES in India on Friday, March 20. Like the existing ES, the new-gen model may be sold via the CKD (completely knocked down) route to keep prices competitive. Speaking of which, the new ES price could start at around Rs 68 lakh-70 lakh (ex-showroom).

What are the exterior design highlights of the new Lexus ES?

Outsizes current ES in every dimension

The new ES looks significantly sharper and more futuristic than its predecessor, and is larger in every sense too. Measuring 5,140mm in length, 1,920mm in width, and 1,555-1,560mm in height, the new ES is 165mm longer, 55mm wider, and 110-115mm taller than the outgoing model. Its wheelbase measures 2,950mm, which is 80mm longer than the old ES.

Up front, the new ES sports L-shaped DRLs and indicators arranged in a Z-shaped cluster, with the main headlight units located right below and concealed within gloss black trim pieces. The characteristic Lexus spindle grille is absent from the new ES. Instead, there’s a smooth centre section and a small air intake underneath, which is flanked by diamond patterns.

The side profile notably features a large aerodynamic crease lined with gloss black trim, new alloy wheel designs, and a Kammtail-esque roofline. At the rear, the main talking point is a sleek LED light bar that houses illuminated ‘LEXUS’ lettering, and underneath it sit L-shaped reflectors.

Which features does the new Lexus ES offer?

Heavy on tech, light on physical controls

Inside, the new ES adopts a cleaner, more tech-laden layout, but at the expense of physical controls. Much of the key functionality is folded into the 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, which gets OTA updates, and the centre console sports an array of touch-capacitive buttons. The three-spoke steering wheel thankfully has tactile physical buttons, and ahead of it sits a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display.

Coming to creature comforts, the new ES comes with powered front seats with memory functions, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, configurable ambient lighting, an electrochromic glass roof, an ADAS suite, a Mark Levinson surround sound system, an electronic parking brake, reclining rear seats with optional ottoman and massage functions, and more.

Which powertrains will the new Lexus ES come with?

Can be had as a hybrid or EV in global markets

Internationally, the new ES is offered with hybrid and EV powertrains. While the former is likely for India since the outgoing ES is sold as a hybrid too, Lexus may bring the EV version too.

The ES 300h comes with 197hp 2.0-litre and 201hp 2.5-litre petrol-hybrid powertrains, while the higher-spec 350h gets the latter setup in a 247hp state of tune. An e-CVT is standard fit for all ES hybrid variants, and they’re offered with FWD and AWD options as well.

Meanwhile, the ES EV is available in 350e and 550e variants, which get 77kWh and 74.7kWh battery packs, respectively. The ES 350e uses a 224hp single front-mounted motor (FWD), whereas the 550e is fitted with dual motors (AWD) outputting a combined 343hp. Claimed range figures stand at 685km for the ES 350e and 610km for the 550e.

All prices are ex-showroom, India.
