What to expect from the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV in India
Toyota is set to launch its first all-electric offering for India, the Urban Cruiser EV, on January 19, 2026. The Urban Cruiser EV is already on sale in a few overseas markets and is essentially a badge-engineered version of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, which is also slated to launch in India soon. Here’s everything you can expect from the India-spec Toyota Urban Cruiser EV.
What will the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV look like?
Based on e Vitara but has a fully revamped front end
A newly released teaser of the Urban Cruiser EV previews a design that’s very similar to the SUV’s near-production version that was showcased at Auto Expo 2025. Up front, the Urban Cruiser EV is characterised by sleek triangular headlights with segmented LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), bridged by gloss-black trim. There’s gloss-black detailing on the front bumper too, flanked by neat vertical air intakes.
Over to the side, the electric SUV gets a charging port on the front-left fender, as well as generous body cladding all around. Much like the e Vitara, the Urban Cruiser EV’s rear door handles are integrated within the C-pillar, giving it a coupe-like appearance. At the back, the Urban Cruiser EV features a smoked LED light bar that looks almost identical to that of the e Vitara, as well as a chunky bumper.
What will the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV interior look like?

Inside, the Urban Cruiser EV is expected to bear a strong resemblance to the e Vitara, carrying over the same dashboard layout, 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, offset 10.1-inch digital driver’s display, two-spoke steering wheel, floating centre console, 238-litre boot (seats fully slid back), and more. There may be slight differences in the Urban Cruiser EV interior’s colour scheme and upholstery, though.
Coming to features, expect parity between the Urban Cruiser EV and e Vitara. That means you get a fixed panoramic glass roof, an Infinity sound system, a wireless charging pad, a cabin air filter, a 10-way powered driver’s seat, a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, ambient lighting, Level 2 ADAS, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, and more.
Which powertrain options will the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV offer?
49kWh and 61kWh battery options likely
In terms of battery options too, the Urban Cruiser EV will likely match the e Vitara, offering a choice between a 49kWh and a 61kWh battery pack, both paired with a sole front-mounted motor. Power outputs are unclear at the moment but could be in the 144hp-174hp range, depending on the battery you go with.
The e Vitara delivers an ARAI-rated range of 543km in 61kWh guise, so the Urban Cruiser EV range figure is expected to be in that ballpark. As for performance, we clocked a 0-100kph time of 9.25 seconds in our e Vitara India review, which should be similar to what the Urban Cruiser EV can manage.
What will the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV price be, and which cars will it rival?
Could start at around Rs 20 lakh
Pricing details will only be disclosed on launch day, but we expect the Urban Cruiser EV to fall in the Rs 20 lakh-25 lakh region. It will be Toyota’s contender for the budding electric midsize SUV segment, which is currently populated with the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV and Vinfast VF6, and will soon see the addition of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
