Tata Motors has revived the Sierra nameplate after more than two decades, pricing the latest model at Rs 11.49 lakh, ex-showroom (introductory). Tata officially revealed the production-spec 2025 Sierra’s exterior and interior last week, and now it has released the model’s technical specifications. The Tata Sierra is positioned above the Curvv in the carmaker’s line-up, even though both are midsize SUVs.

  1. 2025 Sierra is underpinned by Tata’s new ARGOS base
  2. Sierra’s new 1.5-litre TGDI motor produces 160hp and 255Nm
  3. Top Sierra variants get a 12.3-inch passenger screen with wireless headphones
  4. A total of 6 Sierra colour options are currently available

2025 Tata Sierra engine options

Sierra debuts Tata’s 160hp 1.5L TGDI engine

The Sierra petrol line-up comprises Tata's all-new 160hp, 255Nm 1.5-litre 4-cylinder direct-injection turbocharged unit paired to an AISIN-sourced 6-speed automatic gearbox, along with its 106hp, 145Nm naturally aspirated derivative (Atkinson cycle) mated to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The Sierra diesel uses the familiar 118hp 1.5-litre engine, and comes with 6-speed manual (260Nm) and 6-speed automatic (280Nm) options.

All-Terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable base

Underpinned the new SUV is the All-Terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable (ARGOS) architecture, compatible with multiple body styles and powertrains, including CNG and hybrid, as well as both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) setups. As we had reported, Tata is studying CNG and hybrid powertrains for select models, and the new Sierra might add them at a later stage. Currently, the Sierra doesn’t offer an AWD system and is strictly an FWD vehicle.

Design-wise, the boxy silhouette, high-set bonnet, squarish wheel arches, thick B-pillar and a kink in the window line are a nod to the original 1991 Sierra. While the 3-door SUV’s distinct curved rear glass section can’t be replicated now due to modern crash-safety standards, the designers have mimicked the look by finishing the section above the rear window and quarter glass in a contrasting black shade that merges cleanly with the roof rails. Gloss-black cladding is used all around the body, including the bumpers, which also get faux silver skid plates. The spare wheel is no longer mounted on the tailgate and is now tucked under the floor.

Features that we have seen on many Tata cars have made their way to the new Sierra. These include LED light bars spanning the SUV’s width at the front and rear, vertically stacked LED headlights, flush-type door handles with illumination, a panoramic sunroof and a powered tailgate. 17-19-inch alloy wheel options will be offered as well.
