Mahindra BE 6 real world performance compared to rivals

Image
Launched late last year, the BE 6 is arguably the most radical-looking car Mahindra currently sells. It competes with the Hyundai Creta Electric , Tata Curvv EV , and MG ZS EV in the electric midsize SUV segment, which has grown more relevant in recent years. For performance-oriented buyers, though, which of these electric SUVs is best? We put them through our stringent tests to find out. Mahindra BE 6 vs rivals price and specifications Only top-spec variants have been considered for this test. We’ve tested the top-spec battery and motor configurations for these EVs, so all of them have been represented in their most potent guises. To that end, the BE 6 takes the cake (on paper) thanks to its 79kWh, rear-motor setup outputting 286hp and 380Nm – well over 100hp compared to the others. The ZS EV is a distant second, followed by the Creta Electric, and then finally the Curvv EV. ZS EV price is the lowest, and BaaS enables even bigger savings. Mahindra BE 6 vs Hyundai Creta E...

2026 Audi Q3 review: Good things come in small packages

Image
Before you roll your eyes and sigh, “Another Audi that we won’t get for some time”, know that this third-gen Audi Q3 is coming (relatively) soon. It will jump the queue of India-bound models like the A5 , the  new Q5 , the  new A6 , the  Q6 e-tron  and the  A6 e-tron  and should go on sale in our market by mid-2026.  We’ve driven one in sunny, rainy and windy Scotland to tell you what to expect. The news is good.   2026 Audi Q3 exterior design and engineering - 8/10 New Q3 is about the same size as the outgoing model. The new Q3 is all of 40mm longer than the outgoing model while the wheelbase remains unchanged. It’s the similar footprint that lends familiarity because in styling, the new Q3 takes a very different direction from older Q3s. Gone are the subtle angular cues of the gen 1 and gen 2 models, and in comes a more flamboyant styling treatment. Split headlamp look could split opinion. A large honeycomb grille with a 2D Audi...

Kiger, Magnite or C3: Which is a safe automatic SUV for a first time driver?

Image
My son is turning 19, and I want to surprise him with his first car. I’ve kept a budget of around Rs 10 lakh, and I’m looking for an automatic SUV that’s safe and dependable, but also has that 'cool factor' he would appreciate. Any suggestions? Giriraj, Dwarka Autocar India says:  We'd recommend you to shortlist the  Nissan Magnite N-Connecta 1.0 Turbo CVT  and  Renault Kiger Techno Turbo CVT , both of which are priced under Rs 10 lakh ex-showroom. Not only do they get standard safety kit like 6 airbags, ESP and hill-start assist, but these have been awarded respectable scores for their crash worthiness by Global NCAP. Further, their turbo-petrol and automatic combination is the smoothest and nicest to drive in their price category. Also, both cars have been updated recently with fresher aesthetics and new features, and in our eyes at least, these have the 'cool factor' a teenager would appreciate. Another fun-to-drive option in that price category is the...

Hyundai Creta N Line long term review, 15,000 km report

Image
Another 5,000km has flown by since my last report, but the Hyundai Creta N Line hasn’t been exclusively mine for all of it. With Autocar India’s faithful Renault Lodgy officially retired, the Hyundai has quietly become the support car of choice for shoots. It’s not hard to see why the team calls on it so often. The 160hp turbo-petrol engine is strong enough to keep pace with the fast cars (and bikes) we often film, and the vast boot swallows camera cases, tripods and rigs with ease. The roomy cabin helps too, doubling up as a quick footage backup bay on journeys back to base. Blind spot cameras deliver a crisp view and are a huge help on our chaotic roads. I can’t say I like ‘my’ car being away from me so often, but I have to admit it’s always nice to have the Creta back, irrespective of what else I’ve been driving in the interim. And that’s because the Creta is an SUV that’s just so easy to gel with. The size is just right, the basic ergonomics are sound (it’s a fine example of bu...

Triumph Thruxton 400 performance tested and explained

Image
The Triumph Thruxton 400 is a café racer with clip-on handlebars and has a more aggressive riding position than the Speed 400. The engine in this bike is tuned to be quicker and hit a higher top speed. It has a kerb weight of 183 kg, feels nimble, and is characterful to ride. Here is what our tests revealed.   Triumph Thruxton 400: Acceleration Testing of the Thruxton 400 was conducted on a damp road during the monsoon season Acceleration 0-60kph 2.93s 0-80kph 4.47s 0-100kph 6.62s For a clean launch off the line, we needed to switch off the Traction Control system. Acceleration felt potent from the get-go, and the tyres provided adequate grip, despite the damp conditions. With these acceleration figures, the Thruxton 400 is the quickest bike from the Triumph 400cc range.   Triumph Thruxton 400: Roll-on acceleration The 398cc, single-cylinder engine in the Thruxton 400 makes 42hp at 9,000rpm and 37.5Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm.  ...

Tata Curvv EV long term review, 7,300km report

Image
If you thought electric cars were fragile when it came to extreme weather, think again. A spell of heavy Mumbai monsoons proved otherwise for our long-term Tata Curvv EV – and, in fact, cemented my view that EVs may actually be better ‘monsoon cars’ than petrol or diesel equivalents. Unlike combustion engines, there’s no air intake to gulp water, nor an exhaust pipe to drown in floodwaters. EV battery packs and motors are sealed to rigorous standards. The Curvv, like most modern EVs, boasts an IP67 certification, which means the critical electrical components can withstand dust intrusion and survive immersion in up to a metre of water for 30 minutes. In practice, that means you’re not nervous splashing through waterlogged streets. Flooded streets are something we have to regularly contend with outside Autocar India HQ in Byculla, which is a low-lying area. I have to say, it’s oddly liberating wading silently through standing water that would make some SUVs think twice! Boot spac...

Why scooter sales have grown 3 times compared to bikes in August 2025

Image
According to SIAM (Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers), as of August 2025, scooter sales grew 12.7 percent. That is three times faster than the growth of bike sales at 4.5 percent. Leve Anthony arrived at a TVS showroom in Andheri in Mumbai to buy a TVS Raider for his brother. Later, the college student walked out of a Suzuki showroom, booking an Access instead. “Looking at Indian road conditions and practicality to carry stuff, I decided to go for a scooter,” he said.  What is driving this sudden shift? Let's know from customers and numbers alike. Practical Accessibility  Aditya Rikame says, "Mostly what drove me towards buying a scooter instead of a bike was more of the practicality. Once you have a kid, the practicality of the scooter becomes very important." Aditya Rikame traded his sporty Suzuki Gixxer to buy a TVS Jupiter to carry his son and have space to carry things at the same time.  Azhar Khan, a gym trainer from Mumbai, points out a realit...

Which is the best car to buy for large dogs in a Rs 15 lakh budget?

Image
I’m planning to replace my Skoda Yeti and would greatly value your advice. My budget is around Rs 15 lakh, and the vehicle must be practical and comfortable enough for two beloved family members — a Labrador and a Husky. Which cars might you recommend?  Angad Jain, via email Autocar India says: You might like to consider the Kia Syros . It shares much of the Skoda Yeti’s character and proportions, and its upright, boxy design makes it both spacious and practical. However, if you prefer the flexibility of folding the seats to create a completely flat floor for your two four-legged family members, the Kia Clavis may be the better choice.   from Autocar India https://ift.tt/feNkPUz

Royal Enfield Scram 440 fuel economy tested and explained

Image
Royal Enfield’s Scram 440 is essentially an evolution of the 411 that preceded it and it uses the company’s largest air/oil-cooled single-cylinder engine in the current lineup. We’ve been able to spend some extensive seat time with the Scram 400 and here’s how much fuel economy it returned in our standard tests.  Royal Enfield Scram 440 real-world fuel efficiency Scram returned 27.26kpl in the city, 41.8kpl on the highway As is our practice, we first ran the Scram 440 on the highway for a little over 50km, after which it needed 1.33 litres of petrol to brim the tank again. Thereby, we achieved a fuel efficiency figure of 41.8kpl - pretty respectable for an engine of this size.  After this, we ran the bike for close to 50km inside the traffic-riddled streets of South Mumbai, which necessitated an additional 1.75 litres of petrol to brim the Scram’s fuel tank. Thus, we arrived at the 27.26kpl economy figure.  Royal Enfield Scram 440 fuel economy analysis It comes wit...
