5 most affordable bikes in India

The Indian two-wheeler market is one of the most competitive and cost-conscious in the world. Buyers here demand not just affordability, but also reliability, fuel efficiency, and long-term value, all without breaking the bank. This very demand gave rise to icons like the Hero Splendor, which entered the market over two decades ago and completely reshaped the commuter segment. Since then, legacy manufacturers like Hero, Honda, TVS, and Bajaj have continued to push the envelope, offering frugal and dependable bikes at remarkably low prices.
Here’s a list of 5 most affordable commuter bikes in India.
5. Honda Shine 100
Rs 68,794
Kicking off this list is the Shine 100, which is Honda’s most affordable two-wheeler in India. It is powered by a 98.98cc, air-cooled engine, producing 7.38hp and 8.04Nm, mated to a 4-speed gearbox. Recently, Honda had updated the Shine 100 to comply with the more stringent OBD2B norms, a new “black with orange” scheme and a Rs 2,000 price hike.
Bajaj Platina 100
Rs 68,262
Priced just a few hundred rupees lower than the Honda Shine 100 is the Bajaj Platina 100. The Platina is a hardy 100cc commuter, powered by a 102cc air-cooled engine. It delivers 7.9hp and 8.3Nm of torque, and comes mated to a 4-speed gearbox.
Hero HF Deluxe (All Black)
Rs 61,098
Drawing a significant gap between the Platina 100 and the Shine 100 is the Hero HF Deluxe. This comes as no surprise, considering Hero’s expertise in managing economies of scale and delivering excellent value at a low asking price. The Deluxe is part of the HF family and shares its engine with the rugged Splendor, but it is offered at a more affordable price point. It is powered by a 97.2cc air-cooled engine that produces 7.9hp and 8.05Nm of torque, paired with a 4-speed gearbox. However, it is worth mentioning that this Rs 61,098 price tag is for the All-Black variant, while other variants with a brighter colour palette are priced a fair bit higher.
TVS Sport ES
Rs 60,281

The TVS Sport ES is the most affordable TVS motorcycle on sale in the country. The ES Suffix in the Sport name indicates electric start. Earlier offered as a 100cc model, it was later upgraded to a 109.7cc engine during the BS6 transition in 2020 and also got fuel injection. With this update, the TVS Sport also received a bump in peak output from 7.3hp and 7.5Nm of torque to 8.3hp and 8.7Nm. Since then, the TVS Sport has remained largely unchanged, barring emission-related updates.
Hero HF 100
Rs 60,118
The HF 100 is India’s most affordable petrol-powered bike. It comes from Hero, makers of the world’s bestselling motorcycle – the Splendor. The HF 100 shares its engine with the Splendor and the Deluxe. To keep the price low, it misses out on features such as an electric start, tubeless tyres, Hero’s proprietary start/stop system (i3s), USB charging, and others.
