Image
The updated Yezdi Adventure has been launched with prices ranging between Rs 2.10 lakh - Rs 2.20 lakh (ex-showroom). The bike is fundamentally the same but has received numerous revisions in almost all areas.  334cc motor has seen multiple internal changes Gets new, smaller tank rails Now weighs 11 kg less than before Yezdi Adventure updated model details Just like Classic Legends did with the Jawa 350 , the company has now done with the Yezdi Adventure. The entire motorcycle has seen multiple changes to address its known issues. Starting with the engine, the exhaust header is now centrally routed and the coolant flow has been optimised, which helps improve heat management, claims the company. The updated mill is now rated for 29.6hp and 29.8 Nm of torque, which is 0.7hp less than before but torque stays the same.  The bulky tank rails of the previous bike have now been done away with and taking their place on the updated Yezdi Adventure is a sleeker system. Unlike th...

BMW 5 Series LWB rear 'Theatre Screen' under evaluation

Image
BMW revolutionised rear-seat entertainment when it launched the 7 Series with a fold-down 31.3-inch screen. Known as the ‘Theatre Screen’, the system consists of a massive 8K screen that electrically folds down from the roof for an impressive viewing experience for rear-seat passengers. However, BMW hasn’t specified the Indian version of the long-wheelbase 5 Series with its Theatre Screen. So, why was such an important, owner-pleasing feature been left out? Theatre Screen deemed an obstacle for local assembly of 5 LWB BMW will introduce it at a later stage Theatre Screen is a 31.3-inch panoramic display with 8K resolution and 5G “It was already a big struggle getting the 5 Series assembled in India,” explains Jean-Philippe Parain senior vice president BMW Group, “so the panoramic display is not on this car.” One less obstacle to overcome on the road to local assembly, we understand. BMW, however, hasn’t ditched its latest attention-grabbing feature for India. “While it is n...

How The Casting Of Frank Stone's Cutting Room Floor Mode Makes Replaying Choices Easier

Image
Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC Publisher: Behaviour Interactive Developer: Supermassive Games Release: September 3, 2024 Rating: Mature The Casting of Frank Stone may have new elements due to its ties to Dead by Daylight, but it remains a Supermassive horror game at its core. By that, I mean it’s a narrative-focused, choice-driven adventure that can result in numerous different outcomes based on your decisions and reaction time to sudden button prompts. Characters can be permanently killed off due to your actions, and this blueprint has given past Supermassive works like Until Dawn and especially The Quarry (which boasted 186 different outcomes) plenty of replayability for fans who wanted to see every possible route the story could take. This has typically meant restarting the entire game, but The Casting of Frank Stone eases this process thanks to a new destination called the Cutting Room Floor. This mode opens after you’ve beaten the game once, but it will b...

Opinion: Why Mahindra needs aspirational products over volume offerings

Image
There’s no doubt the Thar has been an absolute hot seller. Over 1.70 lakh units of the new-generation Thar have been sold so far, and this year, close to 30,000 units were delivered. That’s an average of 6,000 per month for what is a niche-segment vehicle. While this is good news for the bean counters at the head office, it’s far from ideal for the marketing men.  Let me explain. Initially, the Thar was lapped up by off-road enthusiasts and the well-heeled seeking a lifestyle addition to their garage. It was a niche off-beat vehicle looked upon with interest by those around, akin to a sportscar.  Now, however, it’s moving more mainstream. And, unfortunately, besides becoming too common a sight on our roads, thanks to its fun and wild image, there’s all manner of fun and wild things being done with it. A lot of it is crass, some even illegal. And that’s not the kind of image you want for a brand with such strong equity. And certainly not when you want to take it further up t...

R15 or Karizma XMR: Best sportbike for city use?

Image
Hello, I am looking to upgrade to a new sports bike from my 2021 Suzuki Gixxer SF. My requirements are that it has to be fully-faired and have better performance than my Gixxer SF. I want it to have good mileage and low maintenance cost. I will be using it mostly for commuting in the city. Udit Mishra, via email Autocar India says: For upgrading from your current Suzuki Gixxer SF, there are three credible options - the popular Yamaha R15 V4, the resurrected Hero Karizma XMR and the elder sibling to your current bike - the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250.  The Yamaha R15 V4 is by far the most popular of these 3 and for good reason - it is a very good sportbike. But for exactly that same reason, we feel that bike won’t fit the bill for your primarily city usage. The ergonomics are far too committed and the small 155cc motor needs to be revved quite a bit to make progress. It is also a pricey machine with the entry level variant priced at Rs 1.82 lakh and the top-spec race replica version g...

The upcoming Tata Curvv EV will be the brand’s fifth electric offering in the mass segments and only the second in highly contested midsize SUV segment. Mercedes GLS to get another facelift

Image
The current generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLS is set to get another refresh, spy shots have confirmed. The third-gen model made its international debut in November 2019, and received its first facelift in 2023, and both have been brought to the Indian market. Mercedes GLS facelift to sport new front and rear design Interior, features to be similar to the latest Mercedes models Electrified petrol and diesel engines expected to continue Mercedes GLS facelift exterior highlights The GLS facelift spied on test only has camouflage on the nose and rear section, indicating that majority of the changes will be seen on those areas. Mahindra XUV 3XO MX1: is the entry level variant worth the price?

Image
I am planning to buy the Mahindra XUV 3XO MX1 trim. Is it worth buying, considering the after-sales service and resale value of the car? Wilvin Roy, Kasaragod Autocar India says: The 3XO is fantastic value for money and great to drive, too. It may not have the same hassle-free ownership as a Brezza, but the latest Mahindras have improved dramatically, and our advice would be to go for one, especially before prices rise. Maruti Jimny AT long term review, 11,600km report

Image
There is no denying that I am more inclined towards SUVs. Combine that with a petrol motor and 4x4 hardware, and the SUVs are easily my pick of the lot amongst other long-term cars in our fleet. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny ticked all these boxes and, thus, was my daily driver for a few months. We covered a little over 11,000 kilometres, driving it over all sorts of terrain: within the city, outstation trips, and, of course, some off-roading, too!   One thing I want to say straight up is that the Jimny is definitely not a car that I enjoyed a lot driving on open roads or highways. It does get the job done, but it isn’t really enthusiastic in terms of acceleration. I had to be very patient and wait for it to gather pace, especially while overtaking. Thankfully, though, the four-speed automatic gearbox has an overdrive-off button, which, when engaged, lets the engine rev higher by not allowing the gearbox to shift up to the overdrive ratio. In simpler words, it’s like a ‘sport’ ...

Porsche Cayenne with combustion engine will be sold beyond 2030

Image
Porsche’s most popular model, the Cayenne, will continue with an internal combustion beyond 2030. The German brand has confirmed that it will introduce a “further upgrade” to the current third-generation Cayenne, which got a major mid-cycle update last year. Third-gen Cayenne to get mechanical upgrade Fourth-gen Cayenne is a pure EV SUV The third-generation Cayenne will continue to be sold alongside the upcoming fourth-generation electric version of the SUV. The new Cayenne EV will be technically unrelated to its predecessor which will continue to be available with internal combustion and hybrid powertrains. The “further upgrade” to the current Cayenne will focus on its 4.0-litre V8 engine, which makes 475hp in the Cayenne S, 659hp in the Cayenne GT, and 739hp in the top-spec Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid PHEV . A majority of these updates will aim to enhance the engine’s efficiency. However, there is no information about the upgrades on the 3.0-litre V6 engine, that is available ...

BMW CE 02 India launch in second half of 2024

Image
Earlier this year, we reported that BMW would launch the locally manufactured CE 02 in India. This is the first EV product born off the TVS-BMW partnership and it is not only manufactured by TVS but the Hosur-based company also co-developed this platform with BMW. However, before the CE 02 launch, BMW decided to launch its bigger sibling in India, the CE 04. The 04 is BMW’s first big electric scooter and it has been on sale overseas for the past couple of years. Unlike the CE 02 though, the 04 is manufactured in Berlin and brought to India as a CBU import, which explains its high asking price . The CE 02 will be far more affordable than the 04, but it won’t be an affordable electric scooter by any means. For example, it is priced above the 310cc models in every international market that it is available, and the 310s are also made in the same TVS plant. The CE 02 could launch in India somewhere closer to the final months of the year. It will be interesting to see what sort of a p...

Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 review: On the offensive

Image
“A member of a small independent group taking part in irregular fighting, typically against larger regular forces.” That’s the answer that Google provides when you type in the word Guerrilla - a search that has surely spiked in popularity now that Royal Enfield has used it to name their latest bike. It’s an apt name when you consider that this is Royal Enfield’s stab at infiltrating a segment it has never been in. And the fact that it is going to do so with smaller sales numbers than usual. RE has definitely adopted a fighting spirit with this motorcycle, with the company making fun of ‘plastic’ rivals as well as stating that too many manufacturers seem to be making clones of other products. That second dig is well earned given how blatantly Honda’s new CB350 has been ‘inspired’ by the Classic 350… Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 design and features With that sort of a tone, it’s good that the Guerrilla has its own look and identity in its segment. You won’t mistake this bike for an...

MG Hector in Himachal: Peak comfort

Image
Driving in the mountains is an experience I always look forward to. This stems from a feeling that our standard expressways are much too straight, and I would like some curves for the sake of driving pleasure. When MG Motor India contacted us saying there was a drive planned to Himachal Pradesh, I, naturally, threw my hat in the ring for that at the weekly edit meet. A late night (and much delayed) flight to New Delhi saw me wake groggy on the day the drive began at the MG Motor showroom at Najafgarh Road, with large amounts of coffee keeping me coherent. However, the Hectors lined-up outside the showroom acted like something of a tonic, and I eagerly got in. Our journey would take us through Mandi and Jibhi to Narkanda, which is famous for its skiing scene, and back, and also planned was a stop at Chitkul, the last village on the Indo-Tibet route. Our seven-SUV convoy took a lot of detours to enjoy the beatific scenery. A ski destination Narkanda maybe but considering the time o...

Hyundai Creta: which LED headlights to upgrade to?

Image
I have a Hyundai Creta SX (O) diesel, and I feel the LED headlamps’ throw is not that great. Please suggest the bulb I should upgrade to and its wattage. C Siva Jagan, Tuticorin Autocar India says: We would recommend upgrading to a pair of 50W Osram HB3 premium LED bulbs in 6000K colour temperature. The set will cost around Rs 5,000 and is likely to offer better light intensity and illumination compared to the stock bulbs on the Creta. BMW looking at long wheelbase SUVs for India

Image
After having established a strong foothold in India’s long-wheelbase (LWB) sedan market, BMW is now looking at introducing LWB SUVs here. The German brand has three LWB sedans in India: the 3 Series, the 7 Series and the recently launched 5 Series, all aimed at rear passenger comfort. BMW has three LWB sedans in India currently Four BMW SUVs have LWB layouts in China X5 LWB’s wheelbase is around 200mm longer than the GLE's BMW SUV line-up in India could get LWB models On the sidelines of the 5 Series launch , Jean-Philippe Parain, the company’s senior vice president for sales regions Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, said, “SUVs still make [up] more than 50 percent of BMW’s India sales. So it’s really, really important. And we are looking at all options. We understood that long wheelbase is important for the Indian market; because of the time spent on the road, space is a key feature.” Indian customers, according to Parain, want more room in the second ...

Nobody Wants To Die Review – A Beautiful But Limited Mystery

Image
Reviewed on: PC Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC Publisher: Plaion Developer: Critical Hit Games Release: July 17, 2024 Rating: Mature Nobody Wants to Die’s world terrifies me. Set only a few hundred years in the future, it paints a dystopian society where humanity has unlocked the secret to immortality, but instead of eternal bliss, it paved the way for the government to have full legal control of our bodies. The world is as fascinating as it is upsetting, and a high-profile murder becomes the catalyst for a gripping (though not always actively engaging) mystery within it.  Since Blade Runner 's release in 1982, renditions of a cyberpunk metropolis have been plentiful and familiar. Nobody Wants to Die’s bleak depiction of 2329 New York City stands out as one of my favorites due to its effective fusion of Art Deco. The game looks as if technology skyrocketed in the 1930s while retaining that era’s aesthetic; vintage cars soar across the polluted airways of...
