Bajaj Fighter name trademarked, could be used on future scooter, bike

Image
While Bajaj has announced it will soon unveil its CNG motorcycle, there has yet to be any concrete news about what it will be called. Earlier this month, Bajaj filed a trademark application for ‘Fighter’. 'Fighter' name trademarked by Bajaj on the 7th of May Bajaj's first CNG motorcycle could be Bajaj Fighter, Bajaj Bruzer, details We suspect this could be used for their upcoming CNG bike. A few months ago, Bajaj also trademarked the name ‘Bruzer ’ , which could hint at more than one model. Spy shots have already revealed more than one test mule, each equipped with different accessories. While one unit was spied with road-oriented tyres and a short windscreen, the other was spotted with handguards and block pattern tyres. It leads us to believe Bajaj could have a road version and a slightly more rugged alternative. Design leaks showcase a small petrol tank and a CNG tank under the rider. Bajaj was also recently spotted testing a 125cc bike that would rival the H...

Hyundai Creta CVT vs Honda Elevate CVT: real-world fuel efficiency compared

Image
The Hyundai Creta is Honda Elevate ’s biggest threat in the mid-size SUV segment given that the former is the segment leader. The Creta received a mid-life refresh earlier this year, while the Elevate is still a relatively newer offering in the segment, having entered the space only last year. The Hyundai Creta CVT is priced from Rs 15.86 lakh-18.88 lakh, while the prices for the Honda Elevate CVT start from Rs 13.71 lakh, going up to Rs 16.51 lakh. Hyundai Creta vs Honda Elevate: powertrains The Creta that we tested was equipped with the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 115hp and 144Nm torque, mated to a CVT auto gearbox. The Hyundai SUV has an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of 17.7kpl for this very powertrain, and 17.4kpl for the 1.5-litre NA petrol engine with the manual transmission. The Honda Elevate is offered with a sole 1.5-litre, four-cylinder NA petrol engine making 121hp and 145Nm. The engine is available with a 6-speed man...

Maruti Grand Vitara vs Hyundai Creta: real world fuel economy comparison

Image
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Hyundai Creta are fierce and popular rivals in the midsize SUV segment, and their respective petrol-automatic versions see more than decent demand. The Grand Vitara in petrol-AT form is priced between Rs 13.6 lakh-16.91 lakh, while Hyundai has set the Creta petrol-CVT’s price between Rs 15.86-18.88 lakh. Maruti Grand Vitara vs Hyundai Creta: petrol powertrain Both midsize SUVs are powered by their respective 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engines. The Creta’s makes 115hp and 144Nm, and the Grand Vitara’s produces 103hp and 137Nm. While Hyundai offers a CVT option with its petrol engine, Maruti offers a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox option, and mild-hybrid tech that includes auto start/stop, torque assist and brake energy recuperation. ARAI has rated the Creta petrol-CVT and Grand Vitara petrol-AT at 17.7kpl and 20.58kpl, respectively, which means that on paper, the Maruti is far more frugal than the Hyundai. Does...

New Bentley Continental GT prototype review: Faster, cleaner Brit bruiser

Image
414. That’s the total number of cars Bentley sold in 1998; the year Volkswagen bought the British carmaker and set about reviving it. The Continental GT was the first car launched under the new ownership and it jump-started Bentley’s fortunes. Between its first showing in September 2002 and the final unveil in March 2003, over 3,000 orders were bagged and Bentley went on to sell over 7,000 units in the first year of its production. It’s a seminal car for Bentley for sure and with this new update – built on the current VW MSB platform – the company is super keen we sample it early on, mainly because there’s a mega shift in what lies beneath. For the first time in its history, the new Continental GT not only drops its W12 engine but also gets electric drive . Yes, you read that right. The famed 12-cylinder engine debuted with the Continental GT and was used even when the platform was changed in 2018. It’s now powered by a hybridised version of the current car's 4.0 litre V8. So ...

Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game Review - More Fun Than A Pie In The Face

Image
Reviewed on: PC Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC Publisher: Good Shepherd Entertainment Developer: Teravision Games Release: June 4, 2024 Rating: Mature It’s only a matter of time before IllFonic perfects the asymmetrical multiplayer experience. Say what you will about its previous games; each one offered entertaining tweaks to the formula, small yet clever innovations, and a seemingly better understanding of what makes this genre so compelling. Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game embodies all these aspects, making it one of IllFonic’s best asymmetric games yet. Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game offers a familiar gameplay loop for the genre. Seven human players must quickly locate an escape route within a given environment, find its required tools – a gas can and spark plug for a motorboat, for example – and complete a series of skill checks to finally exit the map, all while being hunted by three Klown players. Humans are chased left and right as ...

New Swift 100kg lighter than first-gen: Maruti's CV Raman

Image
When it comes to manufacturing cars, saving weight is a top priority, and nowhere is this journey better chronicled than in one of India's top selling car models, the Maruti Suzuki Swift . Over two decades, Maruti Suzuki has managed to shave off 100kg, says CV Raman, executive committee member and former CTO, Maruti Suzuki India. New Swift's CO2 emissions down to 95.6g per km from 147g Lightweighting plays pertinent role in EV energy conservation “Since the launch of Swift in 2005, we have changed the powertrain and platform of the brand twice. With the new Heartect platform underpinnings, the fourth-generation model is the lightest yet,” said Raman in the keynote address at our sister publication, Autocar Professional’s Vehicle Lightweighting Conference. Highlighting a massive reduction of 47 percent in carbon emissions, Raman said that the first-gen model used to emit 147g CO2 per km, which has now come down to 95.6g per km. “The fuel efficiency of the new model has i...

BMW R18 based R20 concept unveiled

Image
BMW has recently unveiled the R20 concept featuring colour-coded parts and a unique design. Features R18 motor with increased cubic capacity No key specifications or figures Has colour-coded parts finished in aluminium and gunmetal BMW R20 concept unveil, details At the heart of the R20 concept lies an air-cooled 1,802cc Boxer engine taken from the R18 . However, BMW has bumped up the capacity to 2,000cc for the R20 concept. BMW hasn’t revealed any figures for this motor but we expect the number to be higher than what we see with the R18. For reference, the R18 produced 91hp at 4,750 rpm and 157Nm at 3,000 rpm. In terms of design, the R20 concept features a new aluminium tank finished in a colour BMW calls “hotter than pink”. Additionally, the R20 concept features colour-coordinated parts such as the cylinder head covers, air intake funnels and belt cover that is finished in polished anodized aluminium. While the paralever strut, brake callipers and footrest are finishe...

Kingmakers Preview - Historically accurate absurdity

Image
Platform: PC Publisher: tinyBuild Developer: Redemption Road Games If you haven’t seen the trailer for Kingmakers , I encourage you to watch it now before continuing. If you have, or perhaps you are reading this magazine in an effort to limit screen time (you’re doing great, and we appreciate your support), I can’t continue to talk about the game without spoiling its major twist. The trailer teases what appears to be a medieval strategy game with base-building elements before a contemporary, but admittedly junky truck screams through time to arrive in the middle of a battlefield brimming with horses, suits of armor, and presumably the shouting of old English phrases, but it’s difficult to hear through the chaos. What follows is something closer to Dynasty Warriors, where one man with modern weapon technology like guns and missile launchers wages war against armies of the past. The premise is immediately enticing, bizarre, and funny, but Kingmakers’ creators, brothers Ian and Pa...

From Canabalt To Tunic – Finji's Independent Approach To Publishing And Creating Games

Image
In 2009, a video game called Canabalt was published on the iOS App Store. It had a simple premise: Your character flees through a crumbling urban landscape, making great leaps across rooftops at the touch of your phone screen. It met great success and charted in what was then only a burgeoning mobile game ecosystem. Canabalt popularized the infinite runner genre and would ultimately put its designer, Adam Saltsman, on the map. Now working under the name of Finji as its creative director, Adam’s rise as a designer as well as his partner’s, Bekah Saltsman, as both a publisher and CEO, has been stunning to watch, especially considering the simplicity of that first big hit. Whether you’re playing the bass guitar as Mae Borowski in Night In The Woods, organizing patchwork-colored boxes in Wilmot’s Warehouse, or floating listlessly through space in Capsule, Finji continues to offer memorable, beautiful experiences from trailblazing game designers unlike any other. But for Adam and Bekah, ...

Tech Talk: Will hydrogen fuel cells ever stack up?

Image
Just over a quarter of a century since the automotive world got properly revved up by the prospect of hydrogen fuel cell cars (FCEVs), they still haven’t happened. They failed to take over the world in the same way that BEVs appear to be doing. But the same key FCEV players from back in the day are still quietly getting on with it. General Motors and Honda are two of those and both have a track record; Honda since the early 1990s and GM since the Electrovan FCEV in 1966. In February, Honda unveiled the production version of its CR-V e:FCEV plug-in , which goes on lease sale to customers in Japan and the US later this year. The FCEV is powered by a fuel cell system made by a GM and Honda joint venture called Fuel Cell System Manufacturing (FCSM), based in Michigan. With a range of 595km on a full tank of hydrogen, a further 60km of battery range (according to the WLTP test cycle) and a refuelling time akin to that of a petrol or diesel car, the CR-V e:FCEV is built in Ohio at Honda’...

390 Duke or Interceptor 650: Best bike for casual riding under Rs 4 lakh?

Image
Looking for advice on which new bike to purchase. Few things to note - Budget is INR 3-4 Lakhs. It will not be my primary mode of transport as I mostly use my car. The bike will be used 60-70 percent for Sunday morning rides, 10-20 percent touring and 10-20 percent maybe the odd office commute or coffee run. Prefer comfortable upright ergonomics. Do let me know if you need any further info from my end. Thanks in advance for your help! Rahul Khurana, New Delhi Autocar India says: You haven’t mentioned whether the bike you are looking for is meant to be sporty and exciting or calm and relaxed in nature, so we’ll share a few options at both ends of that spectrum. Since this is going to be a casual use motorcycle we’ll keep things like fuel efficiency as a low priority but all options mentioned here will have upright ergonomics. At the sporty end, there’s no beating the new Gen 3 KTM 390 Duke which offers the strongest performance available at this price as well as outstanding handl...

Monaco GP: Leclerc wins on home ground

Image
Charles Leclerc finally clinched that elusive home win at the Monaco GP, which was red flagged early on as a result of a crash involving Sergio Perez, Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg. With this, Leclerc becomes the fourth different race winner this year. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri finished second, followed by Carlos Sainz, handing Ferrari a double podium finish. Leclerc wins, 7.152 secs ahead of Piastri Verstappen finishes P6 Magnussen escapes penalty Monaco GP: First lap drama The race was red flagged after just a few corners as Magnussen collided with Perez on Beau Rivage, taking out his Haas teammate Hulkenberg in the process as well. Magnussen escaped a race ban, with stewards deciding to not take any further action. Out at the front of the field, Sainz picked up a puncture following light contact with Piastri. Luckily for the Spaniard, the red flag gave Ferrari enough time to repair his car, and he re-joined the grid in third place. Both Alpine drivers also came togeth...

Buy new Swift or upgrade to Baleno or Glanza?

Image
Between the Maruti Swift ZXi+, Maruti Baleno Alpha and Toyota Glanza V MT, which is the best car? I test-drove the new Swift and really liked it. But for a similar price, the Baleno and Glanza have more features and feel more premium. Also, Nexa and Toyota are offering some discounts, whereas Maruti dealers aren’t willing to budge on the Swift’s price. Rehaan S, Bengaluru Autocar India says:  Owing to its sharper steering, the Maruti Swift is the nicest car to drive among these: its three-cylinder engine is a touch better in terms of drivability than the Baleno and Glanza’s four-cylinder petrol unit. That said, the Baleno and Glanza aren’t too far behind in terms of their driving experience. As you rightly mentioned, they have a lot more to offer in terms of features, starting with wider 195/55 R16 tyres (versus Swift’s 185/65 R15), tinted windows, a 360-degree camera, and an auto-dimming inside mirror, to name a few. Though all three sport a similar cabin design, the Glanza’s ...
