Maruti Dzire CNG vs rivals: specs, mileage, features and price compared

Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG vs Aura CNG vs Tigor CNG

Maruti Suzuki recently launched the fourth-generation Dzire in India, and unlike previous generations of the sedan, the CNG powertrain has been offered right from launch this time. If you are in the market looking for a compact CNG sedan, you have two other options – the Hyundai Aura CNG and the Tata Tigor CNG. Here, we are comparing how the new Maruti Dzire CNG stacks up against its rivals in terms of specs, mileage, features and price.

Maruti Dzire CNG vs rivals: powertrain, specs
Dzire CNG Aura CNG Tigor CNG
Engine 1.2-litre, 3-cyls 1.2-litre, 4-cyls 1.2-litre, 3-cyls
Power in CNG mode 70hp 69hp 73hp
Torque in CNG mode 102Nm 95Nm 95Nm
Gearbox 5-speed MT 5-speed MT 5-speed MT/5-speed AMT
Mileage 33.73km/kg 28.4km/kg 26.49 km/kg
CNG tank size (water capacity) 55-litres 65-litres 70-litres

Powered by the new Z12E, three-cylinder engine, in CNG spec, the Dzire produces 70hp and 102Nm of torque. As you can see in the table above, that makes it just 1hp more powerful than the Aura CNG, but it’s the Tigor CNG that’s the most powerful at 73hp. Torque, however, is the highest for the Dzire at 102Nm, which is 7Nm more than both the Aura and Tigor.

What the Dzire misses out, though, is an automatic transmission option with CNG which is a unique distinction of the Tigor CNG. Meanwhile, the Aura gets a four-cylinder engine while both Dzire and Tigor make do with three-cylinder engines.

As for mileage, which is arguably of biggest interest for CNG buyers, at 33.73km/kg, the Dzire is the most efficient compact sedan by a fair margin. However, the Dzire’s 55-litre CNG tank is the smallest of the lot, and like in the Aura, is mounted in the boot of car. The Tigor, meanwhile, uses a dual-cylinder setup, allowing for the largest tank at 70-litres and also far greater boot space.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG vs rivals: trims and features

Maruti Suzuki offers the Dzire with CNG on the mid-spec trims (VXi and ZXi), while Hyundai offers the Aura with CNG on the base to mid-spec trims (E,S and SX). Tata Motors is the only one to offer CNG on the top-spec XZ+ trim of the Tigor, as well as its mid-spec trims (XM and XZ).

In terms of features, comparing the Dzire ZXi and Aura SX, the former edges out with LED headlights, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, additional speakers, automatic climate control, wireless charger, connected tech and 6 airbags as opposed to Aura’s 4. The Aura CNG, however, has a larger touchscreen.

Meanwhile, despite being offered in a fully-loaded XZ+ guise, the Tigor CNG misses out on several niceties offered by the Dzire CNG even in its ZXi trim. These include LED headlights, electric adjustment for the wing mirrors, wireless phone charger, rear AC vents, alloy wheels and hill-start assist; plus, it only gets 2 airbags even in its top-spec trim. The Tigor CNG, however, additionally offers a better 8-speaker Harman-tuned sound system and rain sensing wipers.

Dzire CNG Aura CNG Tigor CNG
Trims VXi, ZXi E, S, SX XM, XZ, XZ+
Price (ex-showroom) Rs 8.74 lakh-Rs 9.84 lakh Rs 7.49 lakh-Rs 9.05 lakh Rs 7.60 lakh-Rs 9.40 lakh

Finally, coming to their price, the Aura CNG is the most affordable here while the Dzire CNG is the most expensive. The Tigor CNG slots right in between. However, given the additional equipment and better fuel economy that’s offered by the Dzire CNG, it is clearly the most value-for-money compact CNG sedan.
